Yesterday I was driving through Warburton with my first-born child. A text message came through on my phone. It was from my second-born child. She was at school only a short distance from us. The text said ‘Look at the sky!’ So we did. It looked like this. I have never seen clouds like this before. I stopped a few times to photograph them.

It was the middle of the day so I presumed, because second-born had sent the text, that she was on her lunch break. I dialed her number but there was no answer. A little while later another text came through. It said ‘Don’t ring me in class!’. This caused first-born and I to laugh our heads off. Send one back (she said) saying ‘Don’t text me in class!’

As she would not normally send me messages from the classroom I asked her later what had happened. It turned out her class was outside, and when she saw this amazing sky she knew that I would want to photograph it. Ah, the wonders of modern technology, and the joys of motherhood.

  2. I have just done a search on these clouds – only named last year – ‘asperatus’ clouds appear to be a new phenomenon. Check out this link
